Powering India’s Green Ascent: How Assystem is Focussed on Engineering a Low-Carbon India

By Shishir Agarwal – Head of Energy, Assystem in India

Our Switcher

Shishir Agarwal,
Head of Energy,
Assystem in India

The urgent need to tackle climate change demands a global shift – a massive energy transition aimed at making safe, clean, and sustainable power accessible to everyone. India is a key player in this movement. The national commitment to achieve 50% of installed power capacity from non-fossil fuels by 2030 was surpassed a remarkable five years early, demonstrating India’s rapid energy transition. While this achievement is a source of national pride, sustaining this momentum requires continued innovation and dedication.

This is the mission that drives us at Assystem. We’re coupling our deep, historical engineering expertise and proven project leadership with cutting-edge digital technologies to secure a stable, efficient, and reliable energy future for all. This is more than just a business for us; it’s a commitment to the country.

Here is a look at this commitment and the critical role we play, from the perspective of Shishir Agarwal, who leads our Energy vertical in India and is fully committed to his mission.

Our Vision for India’s Decarbonisation

With a booming economy and rapidly rising electricity demand, India’s quest to power its growth while reducing its carbon footprint is a complex challenge.

Reflecting on the national goal, Shishir says, “This monumental shift requires a strategic energy mix where renewables, sustainable infrastructure, and crucially, nuclear power, must converge. When you consider this high-stakes context, you realize that engineering expertise becomes the critical enabler of progress.”

Nuclear Energy as the Reliable Foundation

While renewable sources like solar and wind are growing fast, their reliance on the weather means they can’t provide power 24/7. This intermittent nature makes nuclear power a perfect fit; a stable, always on, low-carbon power source.

The Indian government has set an ambitious target to reach 100GW of nuclear capacity by 2047, underscoring strategic importance of nuclear. As one of the world’s leading nuclear engineering companies with nearly 60 years of expertise in complex, highly-regulated nuclear projects globally, Assystem is strategically positioned at the heart of this national effort.

In a step towards ensuring that nuclear energy can reliably anchor the grid alongside renewables, Assystem has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NTPC Limited. This strengthens our collaboration to support the nation’s ambitious 2047 goal and safe operation of nuclear power plants across the country. It is a powerful testament to our promise to power India’s development with clean, reliable, and low-carbon electricity.

Sustainable Engineering by Design

For Assystem, sustainability is not an option but a foundational design principle. This philosophy guides over 1,500 engineers across India. They design every system, from advanced smart grids and nuclear energy projects to critical urban infrastructure, with an unwavering focus on long-term efficiency, optimizing resources, and ensuring the minimal possible impact on the environment. This commitment ensures that the infrastructure we help build today will remain robust and clean for future generations.

Joining a Key Player of India’s Energy Transition

Every calculation we validate, every system we design, is a building block for India’s sustainable tomorrow,” Shishir states. ” Our engineers aren’t just solving technical problems; they are actively architecting a more secure, resilient, and energy-independent nation. With Assystem at the heart of this endeavor, our team is working on projects that directly shape the country’s energy destiny.”

If you are an engineer driven by challenges, eager to apply your expertise to next-generation nuclear, massive clean integration, we invite you to become a Future Switcher.

Join us, and power the change.

Engineering Growth: How Learning Became Part of Our DNA at Assystem

By Nidhi Sharma – Senior Manager driving Learning and Development for Assystem in India

Our Switcher

Nidhi Sharma,
Senior Manager
Assystem in India

At Assystem, we don’t just build complex projects; we build people. And at the heart of that people-building mission is a deep commitment to learning – not as an occasional perk, but as something woven into the very fabric of who we are.

To understand how this works, we sat down with Nidhi Sharma, the driving force behind Learning and Development for Assystem in India.

Why Learning is Core to Being a ‘Switcher’?

“For us learning isn’t a box to tick. Rather it is the engine that propels Assystem forward. When it comes to engineering and technology, the skills needed today might not be enough tomorrow. Hence, investing in our people is fundamental to delivering real value for our clients and staying ahead of the curve.” – explains Nidhi.

Building Learning into the DNA

So, how does Assystem make learning an intrinsic part of the Switcher experience? Nidhi describes a multi-faceted approach:

Tight Alignment: At Assystem, the training programs are developed after taking into consideration constant inputs from our project leads and business units. Whether it is ensuring faster delivery, higher quality or whether we’re entering a new market, it is critical for us that the programs focus at solving real business problems.

Multi-Faceted Approach: From reverse mentoring to knowledge-sharing sessions led by peers, challenging project assignments, cross-functional collaboration, and even curated digital content, we ensure that learning at Assystem happens in multiple ways.

Your Path, Your Pace: We understand that one size doesn’t fit all. A junior engineer needs different skills than a seasoned project manager. Hence, we work with individuals and their managers to identify strengths, aspirations, and gaps, and create tailored learning programs to maximize their potential and strengthen their career within the company.

The Real-World Impact

The proof, as they say, is in the results.

“From witnessing someone who joined in one role successfully ‘switching’ into a leadership position, or getting positive feedback from clients about the expertise and adaptability of our teams, the tangible results are visible.” – Nidhi shares.

For Nidhi and Assystem, embedding learning into the culture is a core business strategy. It’s about empowering every Switcher to reach their potential.

Join us, and let’s together engineer a better future.

Winning Together: How Assystem’s Collaborative Culture is Expanding Its Role Beyond Engineering

“Even after 17 years, there is always a new challenge at Assystem if you want it!”

Henry Ford had once said, ‘If everyone is moving forward together, then success takes care of itself. As I’ve grown in my corporate journey, this has been my core mantra. Living that mantra daily at Assystem has been nothing short of transformative.
– says Sushma Bhatt, Country Sales Director, India.

Here’s a candid conversation with Sushma, as she shares how collaborative culture at Assystem is fueling innovation and building ways to work better.

What Sets Assystem Apart?

At Assystem, collaboration isn’t just part of our culture – it’s becoming a key part of our business strategy. We’ve always worked closely with clients to deliver engineering and design solutions, but now we’re stepping up that partnership by offering inter-disciplinary services.

Why this approach?

This shift reflects a clear intent: we want value addition for our clients, not just through design excellence, but by helping them work smarter and manage better. One way we’re doing this is by adding inbuilt digital services alongside our core engineering offerings.

A recent example of this approach can be seen in the Yadgir Water Supply project, a project undertaken as part of the Jal Jeevan Mission. The original scope of work was focused solely on detailed design. But our team saw an opportunity to make things easier for the client. We included a Digital Monitoring Tool, called SitEXP to help with day-to-day project tracking. The tool not only made it simpler for the client to stay updated, it reduced paperwork, and improved how they managed resources. The client didn’t ask for it, but they quickly saw the impact.

Paving the Way Ahead

Reflecting on the new strategy, Sushma adds, “This kind of proactive collaboration is now shaping how we operate. By combining disciplines we’re creating solutions that fit the full picture, not just one part of it. With this approach, the client gets more than they expected. And we build relationships that go beyond just delivering a project.”

At Assystem India, we’re not just working on projects, we’re ensuring that everyone wins.

Join us, and let’s shape the future – together.
