Cybersecurity of Smart Grids for a Regional Energy Provider

United Arab Emirates

Project Description

A regional energy provider in United Arab Emirates launched a Smart Grid Program (SGP) to manage and execute a Smart Grid strategy alongside a mature and clear governance structure.

We have been appointed to handle the cybersecurity aspects of this SGP.
As part of the scope of the project, we analyzed the existing environment and provided an assessment to develop the overall cybersecurity approach. We also determined the cybersecurity requirements based on the NISTIR 7628 guidelines and assessed the risks involved for each of the SGP work streams (SA, DA, AMI, AM, ITI, Telecom and SI).

In addition to creating a dedicated cybersecurity model for the SGP, we proposed all the required cybersecurity controls to be implemented, analyzed the gap between “desired” and “current” phases, and provided all the necessary material to technically support the tendering phase for purchasing and setting-up of a concrete solution.
