The inauguration of the Noida International Airport (NIA) in Jewar by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in early 2026 marked a landmark achievement for India’s aviation sector. Serving as the National Capital Region’s second international hub, the airport is set to transform Western Uttar Pradesh into a global logistics gateway. By significantly reducing the traffic on Delhi’s IGI Airport, this digital-first, net-zero facility is going to be a powerful engine for the region’s economic growth.
Assystem’s Multidisciplinary Role: Translating Vision into Infrastructure
Assystem in India was central to this ambitious project from the start. Working as part of a high-profile consortium alongside the master architects, we provided the technical foundation required to bring Phase 1 to life.
Our involvement was comprehensive, acting as the Structural Designer, Cost Consultant, and Local Collaborating Architect. During the schematic stages, we also provided the design for MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) services. Our scope of work focused on creating a world-class environment designed to handle 12 million passengers annually (MPPA) in Phase 1, with a roadmap to reach 30 MPPA in the future.
Key facilities delivered under our scope include:
- The Passenger Hub: Design and structural work for the Terminal Building, Forecourt, Plaza, and Departure/Arrival kerbs.
- Support Facilities: Construction of the Integrated Cargo Terminal (ICT) Building, Central Utilities Plant, and the dedicated utility corridor.
- Logistics & Environment: Design of public and staff carparks, along with extensive landscaping for the approach roads and terminal surroundings.
Assystem’s Local Expertise, A Strength for Delivering Large-Scale Projects:
In a project of this magnitude, the ability to blend international design standards with local ground realities is what ensures success. Assystem in India has long been the preferred partner for international firms looking to execute complex projects in India, and the Noida International Airport was no exception.
By working in tandem with global industry leaders, we ensured the project met international benchmarks while remaining practical and compliant within the Indian landscape.
The specific benefits we brought to the project include:
- Seamless Global Collaboration: Our teams worked alongside international firms, ensuring that global design concepts were translated accurately into local execution.
- Regulatory Mastery: We applied our deep understanding of the Indian Regulatory framework to keep the project compliant and moving forward without administrative delays.
- Local Practicality: By bringing familiarity with Indian construction practices and standards to the table, we ensured the designs were both buildable and optimized for the local environment.
- Cost Efficiency: As Cost Consultants, we provided the financial oversight necessary to keep the project’s ambitious Phase 1 goals viable and well-managed.
The Noida International Airport stands as a testament to what is possible when global vision meets deep-rooted local expertise. At Assystem in India, we are proud to have been a part of the team that has redefined the gateway to Northern India.
